“David knows our hiring criteria like the back of his hand so everything goes smoothly. Our interview process is very rigorous. After DEC prescreening, candidates talk to the hiring manager and Area VP by phone. Next, an outside consultant evaluates their sales talents to see if they are a fit. Then they interview here at Corporate with Sales Training and HR. Often, there’s a final interview with the VP of sales.
“Each new hire must complete comprehensive, hands-on training, including two weeks Web-based training and four weeks here in Norwalk learning how to correctly represent U.S. Surgical products to very sophisticated customers. David excels here, too, briefing candidates thoroughly so they appreciate the intense workload and high expectations of surgeons.
“Our training is one of the most comprehensive in the business and a model for the industry. Candidates train in our clinical lab, attend medical lectures, receive hands-on training in the field with other reps, role-play with surgeons here and in an actual OR environment at local hospitals.
Evenings and weekends are spent studying for weekly exams where 90 is the passing grade. Like U.S. Surgical employees, David works harder and doesn’t accept anything less than perfection. Perhaps that’s why DEC candidates have the lowest fallout—nine percent to be exact.
